On February 18 and 19, the final activity within the framework of the project "Building Networks Promoting Health", funded by the Swedish Institute" was held in Stockholm, Sweden. A total of 10 participants (at least 2 specialists/politicians) from each partner joined the study visit to explore best-practices in prevention and treatment and rehabilitation services for youth in Stockholm, while learning about trends faced in Sweden. The delegation visited the following organisations/institutions:
- STAD - At STAD (Stockholm Prevents Alcohol and Drug Problems), the delegation received information about the history of the institution as well as their research and campaigns. The organisation highlighted the importance of their Systematic Prevention work, in which mapping and needs assessment, moblisation, collaboration, implementation, research and evaluation, dissemination, and quality assurance are essential core foundations of each programme to ensure its effectiveness. They shared information about their programmes "Responsible Beverage Service" and "Clubs Against Drugs".
- Mentor - The delegation received information about the NGO Mentor, which vision is to unlock Sweden's youth's full potential through role model programmes, with the help of volunteers. The aim is to provide youth a supportive environment and opporutnity in which they can explore their interests, develop their skills, and achieve their goals. The programmes "Mentor Boost", consisting of school workshops and lectures, and "Mentoring Programme" were introduced.
- Junis - The NGO Junis also presented their work in prevention and their programmes. While providing activities directed to youth, they also aim to increase knowledge on available services for families with substance use disorders in the Swedish municipalities as well as its impact on the children. Junis has established interactive and age-sensitive material to provide support to children to open up about issues that affect them as well as for, for example, teachers to use to start discussions.
- Maria Ungdom Stockholm - At Maria Ungdom, the delegates received information on the available emergency and in-house treatment facilities for youth with substance misuse.
- Mini Maria Stockholm - At Mini Maria, the delegates learned about the outpatient treatment services available for youth with substance use disorders.
Since it was the final activity, the project partners discussed the progress of the project, its positive outcomes, and its long-term impacts. All partners have shared their willingness and planned steps to continue spreading awareness on prevention within their communities.
