Since 1996, ECAD has been a recognised entity on the Regional and International levels in the field of drug use prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and recovery. For over two decades, we have been a platform for our members to network, share information and concerns, and work towards policies that protect all levels of our societies and promote prevention, treatment, and recovery. Simultaneously, we have represented our member cities, advocating for our shared aims, on various international platforms, including the United Nations and the European Union.

Our work would not have been possible without the support of our members, and hence we share our deepest gratitude for their commitment to the issue and ECAD. We are particularly proud of the 28 Mayor’s Conferences organised over the years, the various project initiatives in collaboration with members, with the most recent being “Building Networks Promoting Health” in partnership with the Cities of Tallinn, Kaunas, and Riga, our publications, and our mandates at the Civil Society Forum on Drugs and Vienna NGO Committee.

However, after 31 years, ECAD reached a crossroads and a difficult decision had to be made regarding its existence as an organisation. Considering the incline in awareness, as well as a decline in attendance and members, and a lack of sustainable funding, it was decided during the Annual Congress on May 26 that ECAD will close by August 30, 2025.

We strongly believe that we will leave behind a legacy while having built foundations for increased prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts among our communities in Europe. Our knowledge and network are not lost and will continue
to thrive in different settings.

We thank you for your support over the years and your contribution to creating a lasting impact.
